Data monetization

Building a scalable database to generate cyclical reports based on public Netflix data

The problem

A company in the kids media industry led by a former Disney executive, aimed to leverage publicly available Netflix performance data to create an insightful and bi-annual reporting product for IP owners and production studios.

With the limited nature of the public datasets and a desire for ongoing, in-depth analysis, the challenge was to build a robust, easily updatable proprietary database and deliver visually compelling, data-driven reports.

The value provided

Database creation

Built an Excel-based database merging over 3,500 rows of kids content data from multiple Netflix datasets and additional sources.

Automatic updates

Designed interconnected sheets and formulas for seamless updates with new data releases, reducing manual work and ensuring consistent, accurate results.

Interactive dashboard

Created an interactive, user-friendly dashboard for team members to explore, filter, and extract key insights efficiently.

Data storytelling

Transformed data and written insights into visually appealing reports, integrating the company’s brand identity and enhancing client engagement with key art.

I was impressed with how quickly she picked up the nuances of what was a new industry for her. She added huge value to the projects we worked on both in terms of data visualization and written communication.

In addition to this, she was an all-round pleasure to work with. Between her skillset and her approach, I’m very grateful to have her in my rolodex for projects going forward.
